This symbol is called a sharp sign. When a sharp note is written on the staff, the sharp sign is placed before the note.

Both F# notes as shown use the same fingering. The higher one is played with a change of lip position. This song uses both octaves of the note F#. As with all new notes, memorize the fingering so you can play confidently while watching the written music.
