When the same bass note is used under several consecutive chords, it is called a pedal tone. This is demonstrated in the following guitar part which uses chords from the previous example. Experiment with pedal tones under other types of chords, and then under a whole chord progression.
Sometimes the reverse process is used i.e., moving chords under a single melody note as demonstrated in this example.
