The Half Note

This symbol is a half note.
It lasts for two counts.
There are only two half notes in one bar of * time.

The Half Rest

A black box sitting on the middle line of the staff is
called a half rest.
It means two counts of silence.

This song is four bars long. It contains half notes, using the notes C, D and E as well as a half rest.

This song mixes half and quarter notes. It ends with three counts of silence (a half note rest plus a quarter note rest).
