Continuous Right Hand Movement

Play the following eighth note rhythm pattern holding an E Chord.

Notice that your right hand moves up and down continuously. In the following rhythm pattern, the right hand also moves continuously, but on the "3" count, it does not hit the strings on the down strum (indicated by [). To avoid hitting the strings on this down strum, move your right hand slightly away from the strings.

This rhythm pattern is very important, and should be applied to all chord progressions you have studied so far. Do not proceed until you have mastered it.

Things to Remember

  • Your right hand should keep moving continuously. Do not stop.
  • Play and count very slowly at first.
  • Each new bar must commence with a downstrum.
