The Sixteenth Note

The Sixteenth Note

This is a sixteenth note. There are 16 sixteenth notes in 1 bar of * time. Groups of two or four sixteenth notes are joined together with two beams; - or 7

In * time, sixteenth notes divide the bar into 16 evenly spaced hits. If the tempo is 3 = 60, each bar of * time has a duration of four seconds. Each sixteenth note hit has a duration of ¼ of a second.

Example 144 is played at sixty beats per minute to illustrate the previous paragraph.

At a fixed tempo, sixteenth notes sound twice as fast as eighth notes or four times faster than quarter notes.
