Percussive strumming can add a lot to the feel of the music you are playing. Often it is possible to use percussive strumming where there are rests in the music, particularly with 16th note grooves. Here are two examples to demonstrate this. The first one uses 16th notes and rests, while the second one replaces the rests with percussive strumming.
Here are several more grooves which use percussive strumming.
This next one incorporates the use of the Blues Scale along with chords. For more on the Blues scale, see Progressive Funk and R&B Guitar Method.
