The Quarter Rest

The Quarter Rest

This symbol is called a quarter rest. It means there is one beat of silence. Do not play any notes. Small counting numbers are placed underneath rests. Remember, if a rest comes after you have played a note, you must stop the note from sounding. To stop an open string, place the pick on the string.

In this song, place your pick on the string when you see a rest on the second beat. This will give you three beats of silence.
